Trauma-informed care is an approach that recognizes the impact of trauma on an individual’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being, and incorporates this understanding into the assessment, treatment, and overall care of the patient.

The course will provide therapy practitioners with strategies they can use to better serve their clients who have experienced trauma.  By understanding the unique needs of trauma survivors and incorporating a trauma-informed approach into treatment, therapists can improve rapport, promote healing, and improve overall well-being.

Instructor Bio

Dr. Emily Reid

Dr. Emily Reid, OTD, MA, OTR/L, is an experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for helping individuals affected by trauma. Emily holds a BS in Occupational Therapy from East Carolina University, a Master’s in Public Health Education and Promotion from East Carolina University, and a Post Professional Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy from Mary Baldwin University.

Her doctoral research involved trauma and trauma informed care, making her an expert in the field. Emily’s commitment to her work is rooted in her belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling life and reach their full potential, regardless of their experiences with trauma.

Throughout her career, Emily has consistently demonstrated her exceptional skills and dedication to her clients. She has worked in a variety of settings, including rehabilitation centers, long term care facilities, schools, early intervention, home health, and outpatient clinics. Emily’s unique combination of personal, academic, and professional experience in trauma makes her an exceptional Occupational Therapist. She brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and expertise to her work and is dedicated to helping her clients reach their full potential.

  • Complete the post-course evaluation.
