Lymphedema can significantly impair a person’s ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) and mobility tasks. Therapists are in a unique position to identify treatment options to maximize function and identify when specialty care is needed.  

This course provides therapists with a list of fundamental concepts key to understanding lymphedema, including causes and evidence-based treatment options.

Instructor Bio

Dr. Stephanie A. Slayton

Dr. Stephanie Slayton is a physical therapist certified in Wound Care (CWS) and Lymphedema (CLT-LANA). She has worked in the acute care hospital for over twenty years, currently with the Inpatient Skin and Wound Team at ECU Health in Greenville, NC. She is also an adjunct faculty member in the Physical Therapy Department at East Carolina University and enjoys PRN work at a Skilled Nursing Facility. Dr. Slayton is a member of the Support Surface Standards Initiative (S3I), a working group that is part of the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP). In addition, Dr. Slayton has published and presented numerous times on various topics related to wound prevention and management.

Dr. Slayton earned her BS in Biology from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and her Master’s and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Elon University. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outside kayaking and biking, knitting, and hanging out with her dogs.
